Overview

A part of Yale New Haven Health System and an affiliate of Yale School of Medicine, Bridgeport Hospital is a 425-bed acute-care hospital (including 42 beds licensed under Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital) serving Connecticut's largest city and surrounding communities, a primary service area population of 350,000. During the past year, there were more than 18,000 admissions (including 10,000 from the emergency department), 76,000 emergency department treat-and-release visits, and more than 242,000 outpatient visits. The hospital is the site of the Connecticut Burn Center, the only dedicated burn care facility in the state, and one of only 64 burn centers nationally recognized by the American Burn Association. Bridgeport Hospital offers residency training programs in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Radiology, as well as fellowship programs in Burn Care, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Podiatry and Pulmonary Medicine. Bridgeport Hospital also participates with Yale-New Haven Hospital in residency programs for Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Surgery.
