Resident didactic sessions are fully protected time, with coverage of clinical duties by faculty, private physicians, and midlevel providers. The curriculum for the resident didactics follows a 2-year cycle of topics tied to ACGME competencies and the core CREOG Educational Objectives. Topics are referenced to the standard textbooks within our specialty with the assumption made that residents will read the materials before the didactic sessions. The didactic sessions are facilitated by the residency faculty and the grand round speakers. Once per month, time is set aside for a surgical skills workshop during which surgical techniques are reviewed in either a journal club or practical/hands-on format. Additionally, specialized retreats covering Teaching Skills, Law & Medicine, Biomedical Ethics, and the Business of Medicine are scheduled throughout the year.
Residents on vacation, away electives, and night float are not expected to attend.
