Reference services at the Reeves Health Sciences Library are designed to provide assistance in the areas of research, teaching, administrative and patient care and are available to attending physicians, faculty, residents, students and other staff affiliated with Bridgeport Hospital.

A library staff member is available Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. & 4:30 p.m. at ext. 3254 to answer general questions about collections, services and information resources. More advanced questions should be directed to the Chief of Library and Multimedia Services ext. 3615.

Types of Reference Services:

Ready Reference: Single source searches with quick, factual answers; location of known library materials.

Literature Searches for Patient Care: If you need a literature search for patient care please come to the library or call the Chief of Library and Multimedia Services at x3615.

Mediated Searching: In-depth searches that require the assistance of a trained medical librarian are considered mediated searches. Mediated searches are generally completed in 24 hours, but may take longer depending on the complexity of the topic. Please meet with a librarian at least one week in advance of your deadline to discuss the details of your search.

Verification: Library staff can assist you in identifying the correct citation when you are looking for a specific article or book.

Instructional Reference: How to access library resources and how to develop an effective search strategy. Please speak with the Chief of Library and Multimedia Services to schedule a class or find out when the next class is being offered.

Points of service:

Reference services are available in the library and on patient wards. Services may be requested person (preferred), by appointment, telephone or email.
