Yale Affiliated Fellowship Programs

One of the busiest teaching institutions affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine, Bridgeport Hospital is a 450-bed tertiary-care facility serving Connecticut's largest city with a population of over 150,000. Last year, there were more than 20,000 admissions, 40,000 emergency-room visits, and 115,000 outpatient visits. All medical specialties are represented including Neonatology and Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery. The hospital has 9 ICUs and the only dedicated Burn Center in Connecticut. At present, there are fully-accredited residency training programs in General Surgery, Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Radiology and Emergency Medicine.

Besides its fully-accredited 3-year Internal Medicine Residency, Bridgeport Hospital has four Internal Medicine Subspecialty Fellowship Training Programs, all fully-accredited: Gastroenterology (three year fellowship, one fellow per year ), Cardiology (three year fellowship, one fellow per year), Interventional Cardiology (one year program with one fellow per year), and Pulmonary Disease (two year fellowship, two fellows per year ). Most of the Attending physicians are in private practice, but there are 16 full-time hospital-based physicians in Internal Medicine alone.

The Department of Internal Medicine, including the four fellowship programs, has an active clinical research program with full participation by all of the fellows and internal medicine residents. There is a joint resident/fellows lecture series on research methods, statistics, and ethics offered on a monthly basis throughout the year.
